Thanksgiving Travel

Thanksgiving has become the biggest travel holiday of the year. With an estimated 48.7 million people traveling at least 50 miles from home to be with family for the iconic holiday. The number of travelers has increased from 2015 by an estimated 1 million.

The increase of travelers this year is due to many factors. These factors include: higher wages, better economic growth, and increased consumer spending. Gas prices are up from last year, however, the price at the pumps has been steady throughout the year. Allowing motorists to save roughly $28 billion in fuel prices (based on the national average conducted by AAA).

Thanksgiving holiday travel is to begin on Wednesday, November 23 and lasts until Sunday, November 27. It is recommended to motorist that have some distance to travel this Thanksgiving to leave either Tuesday or Thanksgiving Day to beat traffic in some areas. Plan your departure accordingly, either Friday, November 25 while many people are Black Friday shopping or Saturday.

A destination vacation on Thanksgiving is also increasing. More American’s are planning this holiday away from home rather than cooking dinner. Some popular locations based on increased booking are:
